Brooklyn Dental Emergencies

No one plans for a dental injury or emergency.  Certainly, no one can predict a sudden toothache. But when these emergencies occur, you’ll need prompt and skillful treatment, which we can provide at our Flatbush and Borough Park Endodontic Offices. Getting immediate dental care for urgent problems is just as important as scheduling regular and routine check-ups! If you’re experiencing any tooth pain, do not wait to receive dental attention from your trusted Flatbush Endodontist, Dr. Feinberg.

Toothaches are the most common form of dental emergency, with its most common symptoms being sensitivity to fluctuations in temperature and a throbbing pain inside the mouth. There are a few remedies and procedures you can try at home to temporarily reduce the pain until you can receive dental assistance. Check to make sure there are no food particles stuck in your teeth and use care removing them with dental floss, or an angular toothpick.

Traumatic Dental Emergencies

Dislodged Teeth

Injuries to the mouth can cause teeth to be pushed back into their sockets. If the tooth is pushed partially out of the socket, Dr. Feinberg may re-position and stabilize your tooth. If the pulp remains healthy, then no other treatment is necessary. However, if the pulp becomes damaged or infected, root canal treatment will be required. Root canal treatment is usually started within a few weeks of the injury and a medication, such as calcium hydroxide, will be placed inside the tooth. Eventually, a permanent root canal filling will be placed and the canal will be sealed.

Avulsed Teeth

If an injury causes a tooth to be completely knocked out of your mouth, it is important that you seek treatment immediately! It is important to keep the avulsed tooth moist. If possible, put it back into the socket. A tooth can be saved if it remains moist. You can even put the tooth in milk or a glass of water (add a pinch of salt). Dr. Feinberg may start root canal treatment based upon the stage of root development. The length of time the tooth was out of your mouth and the way the tooth was stored may influence the type of treatment you receive and how successful the outcome.

At the Flatbush endodontic office of Dr. Michael Feinberg DDS, we understand the critical nature of these dental problems, and we’re available and willing to help you during urgent situations.
